Judge Dredd

Initial thoughts
I was really excited to see this movie, I had heard allot about it before viewing, and it pretty much lived up to my standards. its by no means a good movie (Using my chart) but its so cheesy and hokey that, you are laughing at everything and just having a rocken' good time.

Story - 11 out of 20
Even though, because of the clever writing, the story line was sort interesting at points. such as: Some of the antagonists encountered are paced perfectly, reveling their traits slowly to help build suspense. And the hole apocalypse setting is left sort of a mystery, its never really explained what happened to the earth, or if there are other colonies outside of the mega city, and that mystery of the condition of the world really helps build the atmosphere.

Plot devices 8 out of 20
Yup, this is where the clichés of the movie can really be seen clearly. almost every plot device in the movie is a cliché, from the guns, to the vehicles, to most of the antagonists and even some of the protagonists, allot of the plot devices are EXTERMELY clichéd.

SPOILERS ALERT
For example, Riko is a half brother who is a clone. and his brother is also a clone, and they where both created to be the prefect judge. and guess what, they didn't know that they where brothers even though they new each other in the first place.

Acting quality 2 out of 15
Everyone was either over acting way too much, or under acting way to much. in a nut shell the acting was crap. but in a way, this is one of the things that makes the movie fun, just seeing everyone over react (and some times scream) at the littlest things, just makes you laugh out loud. and when people under react to serious situations (when he or she is about to die) it is also kind of amusing.

Characters 15 out of 20
(almost all of the down plays are because of the crappy acting quality.) the characters  are very enjoy able, and most of the time, you actually care about the certain situation a character is going through. this is because every character was given a good amount of screen time, helping each major character's personality to grow stronger, and thus making every character unique and very three dimensional

Special effects/fighting 10 out of 20
Warning there is blood in most of the fighting scenes
the fighting is average, and over the top as well as cheesy. the choreographing in most of the fighting scenes is most of the time well done, it can be a little repetivitve at some points however.
besides the fighting, the special effects while looking at tall buildings or giant ships are very nice (for the time), although during most chase scenes there is very bad green screen effects.

Writing 5 out of 5
The writing was very clever, the dialogue was very well written, it even made me laugh at some points (some times at points where I was supposed to laugh, and other points where the movie was silly). Like in most Schwarzenegger flicks, Judge Dredd has quite a few cheesy one liners, which adds to the silliness of the movie.

And so, the final verdict, for the original Judge Dredd is a
51/100
But Wait!
Although the rating was surprisingly low, my ratings are based on how well the movie itself stood up (how much time was put into the story line, plot devices, writing, etc) not very much how well the public received it.
Even though it scored fairly low on my scale, I would still recommend it to anyone who is sitting at home bored. yeah its silly, its over the top, its stupid at some points, but that's what makes it fun, that's what kept me laughing throughout most of the film.
so, if your bored with your friends, go on YouTube (or to the library) and search it up! (I found it on YouTube, it was the first option) it is a silly movie that will brighten your sprits!
