Marvel: The Averagers Film Review

Initial Thoughts
Before there was huge hype for this film to come out, critics were swarming over the film even before it premiered, fans believed that this film had to be a fantastic one. I mean come on, all of your favorite marvel character in one film together? that would drive any hard core fan bonkers.

Having been released over a year ago now on April, 11, 2012 , people are still going out to see this movie, and is considered to be an action fantasy legend.

But it is really as good as everyone says it is? does it really deserve the 1.5 billion box office dollars it has accumulated world wide? Well lets find out, this is Marvel: The Avengers.

Story: 16 out of 25
If you have read my previous reviews, you have probably noticed by now that I can't stand clichés, they are the story and character elements that are used again and again, and basically show how much the film directors (or writers/producers) don't care about the film. I bring this up because the film doesn't really add anything to the average fantasy/super hero storyline. everyone is scattered around the world and need to be brought together in order to save the world.

This categories gets a sort of low average score just because of the overuse of old super hero/action clichés. It really would have been nice if they added some more fantasy elements into the direct story, I do know that they mentioned some of loki's history, but that doesn't really tie in with the story that the characters are going through right now.

But that doesn't make it bad, the story line is fine, just don't expect anything ground breaking out of it.

Characters: 25 out of 25
Even though all of these characters have been done before (in their own films and comics etc) I still really enjoyed seeing them all working together on the same problem. Seeing characters from different movies in the same movie is always great fun to see, seeing all of the individuals using their special abilities and powers to defeat a foe that is no stranger to cinema.

Yeah I know they didn't really build any character to the present super heroes. but in this instance I don't think they really need to. with the story it needs to be different, because it would be really boring if every storyline was exactly the same, but if you keep the characters the same, the fans will connect more to them, and even people who aren't fans of the characters can still enjoy them because they are still really developed, each one is carefully thought out from decades of tons of development through comic books to television shows to feature length movies.

Villain: 25 out of 25
Yeah you knew this one was coming, you can't really talk about this movie without directly confronting Loki himself can you?

This villain was by far my favorite character in the film and perhaps the most developed in the entire film. and he is truly different from other super hero villains we have seen in the past, what are the differences? well lets take a closer look...

1. Failure: Yeah I know that every villain fails eventually, but Loki continuously fails, all throughout the movie he is always getting himself kicked to the curb, yet he still keeps a certain intimidating nature to him. With any other villain they will at least have some of their plans leading up to the final battle work out, in fact sometimes all of their plans turn out great until the final fight scene.

2. Physiological: Many villains just have a bunch of minions or are just big and powerful. sure you got one or two that do use strategic planning to get what they want but nothing like Loki. First of most of the film, he has limited resources, his army isn't in our realm yet, when he first came into our domain, it was just him, everything he has he needs to physically get himself, or take over peoples minds to make them do it. He really needs to pin point every single phase of his plane to the note.  In addition, to accomplish this he uses superior intellect to out wit his foes, it is quite clear that he knows how to cause chaos mentally, as shown all thought the time whilst being held prisoner. always making remarks to demoralize his opponents to the point where his plan will be successful.

In short, he is fantastic villain for a Fantastic film.

Special Effects: 23 out of 25
Yup, what would an action/super hero film be without Special Effects, all that great CGI that we love to watch, Nothing new is here, The CGI is nice and well done, and very pretty to look. Up to date with the times, the CGI doesn't get in the way of the story, or characters unlike some other recent films (Battleship, 2012).

Nothing really jumped out at me when it comes to the special effects, it is standard, and keeps up with its rivals.

And so the Final Verdict for Marvel: The Avengers is an astounding
89/100
Amazing

Is it legendary like some people have been saying, does it really deserve 100%? No but it is still one heck of an ordeal, With great nostalgic characters, one of the best villains ever, and Great special effects, this is one title you will want to have in your own personal library. If it weren't for the lacking story, this film would have been a legendary title.

Go see this film now if you haven't already, it is defiantly one super hero movie you will want to have carry you away.

42

"42" Review

Initial Thoughts
Okay to be honest, I don't really enjoy sports movies - you know, those films that center around a sports team or particular player and their journeys throughout their career life. always meaning to be inspiring. For whatever reason, I find that story concept extremely irritating, and over dramatic. Just my personal taste, I guess.

 Story: 14 out of 20
Right off the bat I'm going to tell you why the story got a lower score: the storyline has already been done. Pretty much every sports movie ever has exactly the same plot devices, and that's what really makes me dislike sports films more and more every time I see one. Give us something new! Or tell us the same story in a new way, with new situations in the given time period.

That being said, it's still enjoyable to see the characters progress throughout the storyline and the tension and anger of racism is still there, good atmosphere also. However, as I said before, this has been done way too much and I am now just getting frustrated with it.

Characters: 20 out of 25
Many of the characters have enough screen time to develop the characters that are in the movie. Not too many characters, and not too few; however, they do bring in minor characters right in the middle of a huge plot device, which draws away from the story a bit, but not enough for most audience members to notice.

Fair characters, character development is definitely there, well done. New personalities and new character ideas would raise this section's score.

Message: 20 out of 25
Now, let me be clear, I definitely think that it's important for us to remember the people who changed the world for the better, not only for sports, but for all areas in life. But when it comes to sports, I feel like the message has been worn out a bit, like the story, and like the characters. The message does get across the heartache of black people in the 1940s, and some characters add to that in the ways they interact with the main characters.

Acting Quality: 22 out of 25
A lot of overacting in this movie, sometimes warranted, but sometimes during random conversations, which distracts the audience during those moments. But many overacting moments are reasonable, given the circumstances portrayed by the storyline.

Some low whispering is hard to pick up, but besides that acting quality is pretty top notch. In short, the actors make you believe they are the characters they're playing.

So the Final Verdict for the film 42 is a

76/100
Good

Delivers a good message about the heartache many blacks had to go through during the 1940s (when the movie takes place); characters are okay, and the acting quality is good. What prevents this film from being any better is the lack of originality, and the lacking story, otherwise it would have gotten in the 80's for sure.

Nevertheless, it is much better than other sports films I have seen over the years, so go ahead and give it a watch when you've got the time.

Mr. Beans Holiday Review

Initial Thoughts
I first saw this movie was years ago, but didn’t think anything of it. I was young and stupid, thinking, “oh this is just good ol’ Mr Bean!” Well, I was extremely wrong!

My initial thoughts when I started watching the film this time around, were neutral. But, only 10 minutes in I realized that this was not the Mr. Bean I had grown up with.

So, what created the worst film I have seen up to this point? Let's go and see: this is Mr. Bean's Holiday.

Story: 0 out of 10

Now before I start gutting this turkey, I want to say that I realize that Mr. Bean's Holiday is a comedy, so the story and plot will score lower…

The story is terrible, not to mention that everything is clichéd, boring and surprisingly inconsistent. I couldn’t believe how much I didn’t give a crap about Bean or any other poorly-developed character in this film.

The story is very loose. What I mean by that is - it will tell one section and then have the characters just wander around and do pointless crap that has nothing to do with the plotline.

It's stupid, it's boring, and it's completely random and pointless.

Comedy: 3 out of 40

Okay, I am going to be very blunt with all of you Mr. Bean fans… In THIS movie he IS NOT FUNNY. Nothing about this movie is funny, and that is because the entire movie is standing on one joke…he’s clumsy, he does things in a different, awkward manner. In his original mini-series, that works. But in a feature-length film for one-and-a-half hours, that falls flat fast.

Every character in the film is under-developed, boring and stupid. Each one is either a stereotype or barely in the movie at all. This means that you won't give a crap about what they go through or anything they say at all (jokes or anything).

And because the whole movie stands on one joke, and a really bad one at that, you will feel very bored, very quickly.

This is really all you can say about the comedy section. For there are only so many ways you can point at something and yell "THAT’S NOT FUNNY!!!!"

Characters: 2 out of 40

Many characters outside of Mr. Bean get very little screen time at all, and the little screen time they do get is split tens of minutes apart, so any real character development that had been established is gone by the next time we see the character. And even in the scenes they are in, they seem considerably  diminished, left out, down- sized...

It is surprising how much I do not care about any of these characters. About how little impact they had on the story and comedy.

Acting Quality: 1 out of 10

It freaking sucks, that’s all… It seems like everyone either overacts, or doesn’t give a crap. It seems like they are having their cheques waved to them off-screen. Atkinson is definitely trying, and is doing exactly what he did on the show; I think that it's everyone else in the movie who is consistently dragging him down, and dragging down his entire character.

Totally and completely lazy; the acting quality is very poor, very lazily done, period.

So the final verdict for Mr Bean's Holiday is a horrific

6/100

Hall Of Shame

This movie is absolute crap; the characters are boring stereotypes, and many characters are barely in the movie at all. All logic in the film is gone, many nitpicky little plot holes that gather up into one massive sinkhole. Filled with clichés, there is virtually no story at all. And its worst crime is that it's NOT FUNNY.

Never before have I reviewed anything so lazily put together and totally useless. This movie is total and utter crap.

A Good Day To Die Hard: Review

Initial Thoughts
Well here it is, the 5th movie in the Die Hard franchise. Even though there was tons of hype around the upcoming movie, many of the critics were saying negative things about the film even prior to its release. Just days after its premier it got totally ripped to shreds by critics around the world.

But in the end, is it really as bad as everyone has said? Well let’s find out! This is a Good Day To Die Hard.

Story: 9 out of 20
While not totally clichéd like I expected, it did have its fair share of clichés. But the main problem with the story is that it is so bewildering, half the time you have no idea at all what is going on. At least with a clichéd story you know what they are doing; in this movie, they add tons of political and criminal plots, betrayals, and confusing traitors.

Confusing, clichéd, unfocused, and a little boring to be honest, this story line had potential, but utterly failed.

Characters: 5 out of 20
Okay, this is just ridiculous, why can’t action films come up with a new character? ANY new character trait would be nice, but nope, it’s just the same characters time after time. And this is not just true with the Die Hard series; Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and others all suffer from the same problem of adding terribly clichéd characters into their movies. You get to the point where you think every character just follows you from film to film.

Unacceptably lazy, the characters fall woefully short. But by this point we are used to it in action flicks.

Special Effects: 18 out of 20
I don't know what other critics have said about this movie’s SGI, but I think that it was done extremely well. Sure they look a little dated, but they make you believe that the explosions are real, and because of the quick camera shots, it keeps the intense mood, unlike Battleship which had terribly boring SGI and let their scenes run far too long.

Quick-paced, intense, and with explosions galore, the action scenes are easily the best part of the movie. However, when dumb characters are shooting people during a boring story, the SGI doesn't help the rating enough.

Acting Quality: 8 out of 20
Nothing too special throughout most of the movie, but I really want to single out Bruce Willis's acting. It is crap. It sounds like he doesn't give a crap about what happens to anyone in this movie. His son could get killed and he wouldn't give a hoot.

Final Verdict
40/100
Below Average

If it wasn't for the great special effects, the movie would have scored a lot lower. And even though I did like the SG, it still doesn't give this film anywhere near 100%. The story is confusing, the characters are clichéd, and the overall acting quality is average to below average.

I recommend this movie for Die Hard fans (like myself) only; there is no point for anyone else to see this film. You will be even more confused and bewildered than we are.

Trouble With The Curve Review

Initial Thoughts
What do you get when you have an old Clint Eastwood, who is two old to do westerns? you get a very clichéd un-interesting drama, complete with every drama cliché in the book, the old father who is about to loose his job due to evil technology. he is a hard hearted man who ignores his daughter, blah, blah, blah, I could go on all day.

Story 8 out of 20
Yup, this story line is one of the most clichéd storylines I have reviewed on this blog. I am not even kidding here, it has every romantic drama cliché, the hard hearted father, who doesn't care about his daughter on the outside but on the inside he does. His daughter dumps her jerk boyfriend and then soon after finds a beautiful man, however they get in a fight and the hard hearted father needs to help while still keeping his job...
Yeah, tell me we haven't seen that in other movies.

Having all those clichés wont totally kill the movie, but It defiantly will hurt the story.

Characters 9 out of 20
I really don't need to talk to much about the characters, as they suffer the same fate as the story does. Every character in the movie is a cliché, with not a single original bone in their body's. Without going into to much detail, every character is the same as in every other romantic drama in the world.

fairing only slightly better than storyline these characters are simply shameful.

Acting Quality 15 out of 20
The acting quality was descent for the most part, however I do feel that some scene's were over acted by the ones involved.

nothing to special, in fact nothing in the movie was to special.

Romance 7 out of 20
Why can't anything in this movie be original? somehow the romance between Timberlake and Gus's daughter and Gus's relationship with his daughter somehow turn out to be even more clichéd and dull than the story and the characters. absolutely nothing original was added to any romantic scenes, dialogue, or interactions between the characters.

Because of the clichéd story and characters, the romance suffers greatly. tons of clichéd romance scenes (going swimming together and then kissing in the water, etc) and because of the poor character development, the audience will not care at all about the romantic scenes.

So the final verdict for "Trouble With The Curve" is

39/100
Bad

I love Clint Eastwood, as a Wild West shooter, not as a romantic drama director. Women will probably enjoy this film a lot more than men mostly because they love to see romance no matter how clichéd it is. But never the less, men, do not rent this movie to see with your sweet hearts, over time bad romantic dramas like this one will mentally hurt her. And you for that matter.
